past week

past week.
i have learned a little bit about the game maker language. i have read alot of tutorials and watched a few videos. i read the basics on how to create sprites, object and rooms. i ahve advanced my idea of a space related game to start with. i figured that it will be a guinea pig and i can see what will work and what wont and the limitations of the game.

Future week.
preferably this class i need to find what i would call a model game that would be similar to mine to see how the game would work and see how the object relate to the sprites and the rooms and the instances. by getting thsi information i can customize it and make it my own.

here is the website i used to learn the info i currently obtain.

Today in class i learned alot more in the game maker language. I used all the information i learned from last class watching videos and reading tutorials and i put it to use. in game maker its a little different because the sprites are essentially a costume instead of a thing and an object is what the thing actually is, it jsut needs a 'costume' (aka a sprite). then i assigned movements to my object so i can go up down left and right. i want to make a game so there is two players and wherever the player move a trail is behind them. and both of the players have to avoid the trail and enclose the other player in thier trail so they crash.

For the first week in december i plan on understanding the simple language of GM. i could be doing this by finding other peaces of code. I wish to learn on how to comprehend how the games are written in the language. maybe if i have enough classes and learn enough than i can start to create simple programs. for the following week i will neeed:
to find a good tutorial
and to have alot of computer time

my goals

My overall goal is to focus on a single language ( python, c, etc...) that would then be continued into creating online flash games. By Thanksgiving I would like to learn how to read my language. By Christmas i would like to create multiple small and/or a large program in its rough stage. By the end of the term I would like to create a game that would be widely availiable with also being fun to play with some complex ideas. I will just need time and a computer with an internet acess. I would put my work on an online file storage. You could show my work by revealing it to game sites and to my pupils.

UPDATE
  • What is the overall goal? One sentence should sum it up.
    • to have a mediate amnount of knowledge in the gml code and able to write games, and useful codes.
  • Describe the goal in greater detail. This should be a paragraph.
    • I really want to create a game that is wideley availiable to the general online public. a working game that is fairly good to lok at but very fun to play. i decided the gml code ( game maker language) because it seemed failry easy to learn and ahs a lot to do with the games that i would be interested in learning.
  • What are the deadlines? A list with descriptions is fine.
    • Thanksgiving: since there is only 3 days of class before the thanksgiving break has arrived, i would like to learn how to red the basics of gml wich i am currently working on.
    • Christmas: by this time, i would like to have the ability of creating simple prgrams to get me started toward the bigger picture.
    • End 'o' Term: i would like to have a detailed game that i have found a website/s for that is fun to play and involves fairly complex code that i will be aspiring to learn.
  • What skills, techniques, materials, sto and tools do you currently have that will be useful on the project? A bulleted list with descriptions should work.
  • i will need as follows:
    • time- to be able to learn
    • a computer- to do the code on
    • internet access- to get info on how to write it
  • How will you be able to show the progress of your project?
    • i will find awebsite where i can imbed my code onto.
  • How will you be able to know if you have met your goal? A paragraph would be good.
    • I will know if i have met my goal by having an operating game that would be fun to play, involve complex code and is widely availiable to the internet populus.
